I don't Know what it is called, but I know on the radar in real world it has a "Circling Glowing Stick" that circles the radar and the blips light up etc.etc. If there could be an option that would be cool.
Any more info on this, I MAY be wrong. _________________ New York ARTCC INS I1. Da' Best |

I think you're talking about the radar sweep ... only the older systems actually have those. _________________ Ross Carlson - Developer

| Have a look at the TAAATS mode. That is what the real one looks like. |

As Ross said thats way outdated. ARTS III has the "sweep" that I guess you are talking about. Only used at a few facilities still, namely P31-Pensacola/D01-Denver. I think it would be cool, but I dont think it would work in the sense of looking good due to our monitors not being circular. _________________ Edward J. McCoy

The sweep always annoyed the crap outta me, I hate watching videos of the old ARTS III. _________________ Andras Kiss

I beleive they would still exist if there was any interest in having "Circling Glowing Stick on the scope and blips light up etc.etc." Beside looking cool (although pretty annoying to me), they're there cause the primary radar antanna spins at a certain RPM to give a correct readout of whatever you scan for, and that's what you see out the direct analog output.
ATCwide, nobody misses it. At all _________________ Jean-Frederik Dion, VATCAN2

To have the sweep-scope work on a monitor monitor, you'd just have to have the circular scope set in a simulated bulkhead.
I know that my local TRACON (Cascade Approach) has three ARTS-III scopes and I suspect most if not all of the other small TRACONs in ZSE have the as well.
On VATSIM the sweep would simply have to rotate once every 5 seconds (I think that's the update rate) and have the aircraft data update when the sweep passes over their new position. |

Just FYI,
The Flint TRACON in Flint, Michigan still uses the sweep-style scopes, too. They are highly irritating, however, as I discovered on my tour there last weekend. _________________ Harold Rutila
