Ok will do - as soon as I can get someone to fly for me I'm gonna do some testing on it too. Thanks for looking into it.

Update -

I just had a guy do about 8 practice departures for me. In each case I did the following:

He started up connected as a different call sign.
    Filed a flight plan
I assigned him a beacon code using F9
He switched to the assigned beacon code
He remained in STBY at all times - this was observed by another controller watching him in VRC
The other controller never interacted with him in any way.
I then had him climb up from the airport

It autotracked the primary target every single time except...The last time, I had him squawk an incorrect code and it correctly displayed only the primary target and did NOT autotrack.

He was using FSInn and unfortunately does not have SB installed so I couldn't test that, but is it possible it's an FSInn thing? I'm certain that I have seen aircraft take off squawking stby and it not autotrack, although I can't be certain in those instances that the pilot was squawking the correct code or not.

I will try SB as soon as I can find someone.

Shouldn't matter if it's SB or FSInn. Thanks for the info ... I'll do some testing here.

Ross -

Hope I'm not being a pain...lol

Well I think i got it locked down - it seems to have to do with an aircraft switching to it's assigned beacon code. I now had this exact same issue occur with an arrival.

1. I observed a primary target inbound
2. pilot called up, I assigned him a squawk using F9
3. the pilot switched his transponder to the new code
4. the datablock appeared and tracked with RDR as the alt
5. I asked the pilot to squawk mode C
6. the full data block appeared

Hope it helps

Yeah, it makes sense that the issue would occur with aircraft in flight as well as departures.
