When I started VSTARS today, Avast flagged VVL.dll and Vstars gave this error:

Quote:
Unable to load DLL 'VVL.dll': Operation did not complete successfully because the file contains a virus. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800700E1)

and now I get this error when starting Vstars:

Quote:
Unable to load DLL 'VVL.dll': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E)

I tried to download the installer, and the same thing got flagged. I just want to verify this is a false positive, right?

Two questions:

1) Are you getting this error at the time you download and install vSTARS, or do you get the error when you run vSTARS, after it has already been installed for some time?

2) What virus does Avast claim that VVL.dll is infected with?

Get this error after a clean install of vSTARS with no errors or prompts. My AVAST does not flag it as a Virus but just straight blocks it and therefore comes up with the error in the text chat box as vSTARS does version check.

Does Avast tell you *why* it blocks it?

Does not for me. Not showing in any of the rules that Avast is blocking it. Steve might be able to jump in on this...I just saw the same error Steve was having and I am using Avast

Can you tell Avast to scan the file directly and get some details as to what virus it thinks it contains?

Has Avast blocked any other files on your system? Many viruses will inject themselves into any DLL or EXE files they can find.

I initially got the error after it had been installed for some time, but still got it when I uninstalled and re-installed the program.

I don't think it specified, I excluded vSTARS from avast after the original discussion. I just removed the exclusion and started up vSTARS and did not get the warning.
